Comedian and actress Dawn French has expressed concern about the pressures social media places on young people today, particularly members of Generation Z. Speaking in an interview with Good Housekeeping UK, French reflected on the impact of online platforms on self-image and the pursuit of perfection among youth.
The 68-year-old entertainer said she feels "really sad" witnessing the challenges faced by younger generations, who she said are subjected to intense expectations to appear flawless online. French contrasted this with her own upbringing, noting that social media did not exist during her youth, and she did not have to navigate issues such as curating the angle of selfies to hide perceived imperfections.
“I love flawed things because we’re all flawed,” French remarked, emphasizing the natural variability in human appearance. She suggested that the current climate places undue pressure on young people “in every area,” highlighting the pervasive influence of social media culture on their daily lives.
The full interview appears in the July issue of Good Housekeeping UK.
