Residents in the Danau Kota area of Kuala Lumpur have called on the city authorities to address worsening traffic congestion around Jalan Danau Saujana during peak hours. The road services multiple residential developments, two schools, and a commercial zone, resulting in significant gridlock, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times.
Brenda Chong, a resident of Platinum Lake PV10 Condominium, highlighted the heavy traffic affecting not only Jalan Danau Saujana but also adjoining roads such as Jalan Langkawi and Jalan Danau Saujana 1 and 2. She proposed converting Jalan Danau Saujana 2 from a one-way to a two-way thoroughfare to better accommodate increased traffic volumes. Chong noted that her condominium complex alone has about 800 units, with an additional 202 units in Residensi Vista Saujana nearby, putting considerable strain on the existing road infrastructure.
Traffic conditions deteriorate further during school hours when parents collect or drop off their children, creating bottlenecks that disrupt smooth vehicular movement. Chong emphasized that making Jalan Danau Saujana 2 a two-way road would offer motorists alternative routes to access Jalan Danau Saujana and Jalan Langkawi, potentially alleviating congestion.
Community activist Andre Lai identified illegal parking as another factor exacerbating traffic issues in the vicinity. However, he noted that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has been unable to enforce parking regulations or issue summonses because the affected roads have not yet been officially handed over to the city authority. According to Lai, the handover process commenced last year but remains incomplete, leaving DBKL without jurisdiction over enforcement activities. He warned that any action taken against vehicles parked illegally could result in legal challenges from property owners.
Jalan Danau Saujana 2 was previously a two-way street before being converted into a one-way road as part of a road safety initiative launched in December 2024. This project, conducted by DBKL in collaboration with the Global Designing Cities Initiative under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety, aimed to improve safety for schoolchildren attending SK Danau Kota 2, which is located along Jalan Danau Saujana 2. While the initiative achieved its safety goals, Lai acknowledged that it has inadvertently contributed to increased traffic congestion in the area.
As of the latest update, DBKL has yet to provide an official response to the concerns raised by residents and community activists regarding traffic management and jurisdictional issues in Danau Kota.
