Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi remained noncommittal about the future of striker Richarlison amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Brazilian’s status at the club. Reports indicate that Richarlison, 29, seeks to terminate the remaining nine months of his contract, although official confirmation from the club has not been forthcoming.
Richarlison, who joined Tottenham in 2022, has not featured in the Premier League since the opening weekend of the current season, when Spurs were defeated 3-0 by Brentford. Furthermore, he was excluded from the club’s official 25-man Premier League squad announced on September 3. The forward has been at the center of transfer speculation, with a potential return to Everton—his former club—falling through just before the September 1 transfer deadline.
More recently, Richarlison is said to be pushing for a loan move to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama, with talks confirmed by Vasco’s director of football, Admar Lopes. However, Tottenham reportedly prefer a permanent transfer to a loan arrangement, leaving negotiations at a standstill as the Brazilian transfer window approaches its deadline on Friday evening.
When asked about Richarlison’s future, De Zerbi declined to provide a definitive answer, stating, “I don’t know. It’s not my job.” He added that all parties—Tottenham, Richarlison, and his representatives—are aware of the situation and implying that details are better known internally than to the media.
Meanwhile, Spurs have struggled in the Premier League, remaining winless and yet to score a goal this season ahead of their upcoming match against Everton. Despite these challenges, De Zerbi expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, emphasizing his belief in the players’ abilities and potential for improvement compared to the previous season. “It’s difficult to believe right now because we are not winning, we are not scoring, but I’m positive,” he said.
