Authorities have ruled the death of a non-verbal autistic man in Queens as a homicide and are investigating the role of his mother, who is currently hospitalized following an apparent suicide attempt.

Bryan Wong, 25, was found dead by his father early Wednesday morning inside the family’s single-family home on 59th Street near Laurel Hill Boulevard in Woodside. Police reported the discovery occurred around 9 a.m., which was also Wong’s birthday. He was located on a pullout couch in the living room with multiple slit wounds to his neck and wrists. The city’s Medical Examiner concluded that Wong died from stab wounds to the neck and torso.

During the investigation, authorities recovered a knife in the living room as well as two additional knives from the bathroom. Approximately five hours prior to the discovery of Wong’s body, his 62-year-old mother jumped from the Van Wyck Expressway in an apparent suicide attempt. She was found beneath the overpass on Harper Street with fractures to her pelvis and femur. Emergency personnel transported her to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she remains in critical but stable condition.

Police sources indicated that a suicide note written by the mother was recovered, and she is currently considered a person of interest in the case. To date, no arrests have been made.

Neighbors described the family as struggling. Patricia Guevara, who lives nearby, said she had often observed the mother appearing tired and stressed while caring for Wong. She noted that Wong, who was non-verbal and communicated only through grunting sounds, was rarely taken outside the home.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and interview those connected to the family.
