Delta Air Lines has begun offering lower-priced basic tickets within its premium cabins, starting July 8. The initiative initially applies to first-class seating on selected domestic and Latin American routes, with similar basic fare options for Premium Select and Delta One cabins becoming available for purchase on certain routes from the same date, though actual travel in these cabins will not commence until September.

Passengers purchasing these basic tickets in Delta’s upscale cabins will experience the standard onboard amenities associated with those cabins. However, they will not have access to certain premium privileges typically included, such as advanced seat selection, priority check-in, or lounge entry, unless they already qualify through credit card benefits or loyalty program status.

Joe Esposito, Delta’s chief commercial officer, described the policy as an expansion of customer choice, allowing travelers to select the premium experience that best suits their needs. According to Esposito, all passengers, regardless of fare type, can expect the airline’s commitment to “thoughtful service, comfort and care.”

There are trade-offs for passengers opting for basic fares in these premium cabins. They will accrue fewer frequent flyer miles compared to those purchasing higher-tier tickets and will have a reduced checked baggage allowance.

Delta has not specified which routes are included in the initial rollout of these basic premium fares. Additional details outlining the differences in services and restrictions are available on the airline’s website.
