A Delta Air Lines flight was struck by a firework while landing at Midway International Airport in Chicago on the evening of July 4. The flight, Delta 1076, was arriving from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at approximately 8:30 p.m. when the incident occurred.

According to airline officials, a firework impacted the aircraft during its descent, producing a noticeable noise that was captured on air traffic control communications. The Airbus A319 was carrying 52 passengers and six crew members at the time. Despite the unexpected event, the flight crew was able to complete a safe landing at Midway without any reported injuries.

Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the gate as normal, and a post-landing inspection by Delta revealed no damage to the plane. The airline confirmed that all passengers and crew disembarked safely.

The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the firework being near the aircraft during its final approach. Authorities have yet to release additional details on potential sources or responsibility for the firework launch. The event has raised concerns about safety risks related to fireworks near airports, especially during holiday celebrations.
