The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. local time on the route between Rouen and Caen, two cities in the Normandy region, according to Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot.

Emergency response efforts involved approximately 130 firefighters, five medical teams, and 80 vehicles deployed to the scene. Among the injured was an 18-year-old woman who was evacuated in critical condition. Authorities have confirmed that tests for drugs and alcohol on the train driver returned negative results.
