Rangers Football Club is poised to appoint Derek McInnes as their new manager, replacing Danny Rohl, pending final confirmation of Rohl’s departure to Austrian Bundesliga side RB Salzburg. The move comes as Rangers’ chairman Andrew Cavenagh agrees to pay a substantial six-figure compensation package to secure the services of McInnes, who currently manages Heart of Midlothian (Hearts).

Rohl, a German national, is reportedly in advanced talks for a transfer that could involve a seven-figure fee, representing a significant financial gain for Hearts. The club plans to reinvest this sum to facilitate the acquisition of McInnes, 54, who previously declined a managerial role at Rangers in 2017.

Hearts have indicated they will not obstruct McInnes’s departure, understanding Rangers’ interest in the experienced Scottish manager. McInnes’s move could be seen as a considerable setback for the Edinburgh club, coming shortly after the loss of former figurehead Gillespie.

Cavenagh, along with David Gillespie and McInnes, were reportedly in Boston to attend Scotland’s opening World Cup match against Haiti, discussing the managerial transition during the trip. The formalisation of Rohl’s exit remains the key pending element before McInnes’s appointment can be officially confirmed.
