Three developers operating in Taman Seri Kerayong, Kapar, have been directed by the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) to construct an on-site detention (OSD) pond and to clear sand-clogged drainage systems following recent flash floods in the area. The directive aims to address persistent flooding issues that have affected residents during heavy rainfall.

Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain emphasized the importance of a combined strategy involving the OSD pond and regular drainage maintenance to reduce flood risks. He described the construction of the 1,000 cubic meter detention pond as a temporary but necessary measure to capture excess surface runoff, preventing immediate overflow onto residential roads and properties. The water collected in the pond will be released gradually to minimize flood impact.

Alongside the pond construction, MBDK has initiated desilting operations throughout the neighbourhood’s drainage network. According to Abd Hamid, an inspection by the council’s Engineering Department identified significant sand build-up and debris accumulation, primarily from nearby development sites, that had obstructed water flow capacity during intense rain. Clearing these blockages is expected to restore proper drainage function and improve water discharge during storms.

The recent action follows flash flooding on September 29, which affected approximately 25 houses in Taman Seri Kerayong. The flooding damaged household items and forced residents to clean mud and silt carried into their homes, causing considerable disruption. Mohd Zaidi Zainal, director of MBDK’s Engineering Department, noted that residents had raised concerns about the recurrent flooding and traffic interruptions caused by waterlogged roads. He stated that the combination of the dredging efforts and the new detention pond represents progress toward enhancing flood resilience in Kapar.

Separately, Abd Hamid announced that MBDK will operate mobile van counters throughout October to facilitate public payment of assessment tax bills. The mobile units will be stationed near Econsave in Klang Utama on October 3 and 4, and at the Giant Hypermarket carpark in Bukit Tinggi on October 10 and 11. These counters will operate from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during these dates.

In addition, the council will provide, for the first time, a mobile counter at Balai JPKK Meru on Jalan Paip on October 2 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. This service targets morning market traders on Jalan Paip, allowing them to conduct market permit inquiries and payments without visiting the MBDK headquarters. Traders from other areas are also encouraged to use this service to ensure timely and orderly payments, reducing arrears.

Abd Hamid reminded business owners that applications for 2027 council licence renewals will be open from October through December. Licence holders can apply online via the MyLesen portal, eliminating the need to visit physical counters.
