Developers have denied reports that a planning application will soon be submitted for the redevelopment of Kempton Park Racecourse, a venue that has been under threat since 2017. The site, which is located within the Spelthorne constituency, was earmarked by its owner, the Jockey Club, for closure and replacement with a housing development of approximately 3,000 homes.

While initial plans were paused amid substantial public opposition, property developer Barratt Redrow retains an option to acquire the land, or part of it, for residential development. Lincoln Jopp, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Spelthorne, recently asserted that Barratt Redrow had activated this option and indicated an imminent planning application. Jopp secured a Westminster Hall debate scheduled for Tuesday to address "the future of British horseracing," citing concerns over the development’s impact.

In statements to the press, Jopp said he had been told in unequivocal terms that a planning application would be filed by the end of the year. However, a representative from Barratt Redrow contradicted this, confirming that no planning application would be submitted in 2023 and promising to provide further updates when available.

The future of Kempton Park remains uncertain as key stakeholders, including local officials and the horseracing community, await clarity on the site’s fate.
