The Wilayat of Mirbat in Oman hosted the third edition of the Dhofar International Arabian Horse Championship on October 3 and 4 at Midan Al Najaeb. Classified as a B International event under the European Conference of Arab Horse Organizations (ECAHO) standards, the championship attracted participants and enthusiasts from the regional and international equestrian community.
The event was organised through a collaboration between the Office of the Governor of Dhofar, Dhofar Tourism Company, and the Oman Equestrian & Racing Federation. It aims to celebrate Oman’s equestrian heritage while positioning Dhofar as a key player in the international Arabian horse show circuit.
HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, highlighted that the championship underscores the ongoing commitment to equestrian sports and the cultural significance of Arabian horses in Oman. He pointed to the event’s elevation to an international classification as evidence of Dhofar’s expanding capacity to host specialised sporting competitions.
Beyond its competitive aspects, the governor emphasised the championship’s broader cultural, tourism, and economic impact. By promoting the Arabian horse heritage, the event helps to draw participants and visitors to the region, thereby boosting tourism and economic activity in Dhofar Governorate and the Wilayat of Mirbat.
The championship thus serves multiple objectives: celebrating traditional equestrian culture, enhancing the governorate’s profile as a venue for international events, and supporting economic growth through increased visitation and international engagement.
