Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, emphasized the necessity of embracing diverse perspectives during periods of global transformation at the opening of the forum “Global Perspectives: In Doha.” The event, held for the first time in the Middle East and the Gulf region, was organized by CNN in partnership with Media City Qatar.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed that contemporary challenges are highly interconnected and cannot be addressed from a single viewpoint. “At the time of profound global change, understanding different perspectives has never been more important,” he said. He further highlighted Qatar’s longstanding commitment to dialogue, stating that discussions, even amid disagreements, are crucial for building mutual understanding and finding shared solutions. “From business and technology, to media and culture, today’s programme offers a broad range of perspectives,” he noted, expressing hope that the forum would stimulate new ideas and meaningful exchanges.

The forum attracted a diverse group of participants, including political leaders, business executives, and public figures such as HE Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed AlKhater, Qatar’s Minister of Education and Higher Education. The gathering aimed to facilitate discussions on various global and regional topics in an atmosphere of openness and collaboration.

Sheikh Dr Abdulla bin Ali al-Thani, Chairman of Media City Qatar, underscored the region’s global significance, citing recent developments in the Middle East that have affected energy markets, trade, and economic conditions worldwide. He called for a nuanced understanding of the Middle East, recognizing the ambitions and creativity of its people and their contributions to global progress. Sheikh Dr Abdulla described Qatar as a crossroads where education, business, culture, and media converge, fostering the exchange of ideas from around the world.

Noting Qatar’s role in regional mediation efforts, Sheikh Dr Abdulla highlighted the country’s dedication to maintaining dialogue among conflicting parties as a pathway to peaceful solutions. He added that Media City Qatar is working to establish a media ecosystem that brings international media closer to the Middle East, amplifying regional voices and enhancing global understanding of the area. “We believe proximity changes perspective,” he said.

Mark Thompson, chairman and CEO of CNN, described the forum as an opportunity to convene thought leaders, policymakers, and innovators alongside leading journalists to address common challenges and engage in forward-looking debates about the future. The event represents an effort to bridge global viewpoints with regional realities through dialogue and collaboration.
