Representatives from China and the United States convened in Beijing on Tuesday for the third China-US Track 1.5 Dialogue, emphasizing the importance of translating recent high-level agreements into practical cooperation and measurable outcomes. The dialogue, co-organized by the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Asia Society, gathered participants from political, strategic, business, academic, civil society, and youth sectors of both countries.

The meeting reaffirmed the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation as essential to maintaining stable bilateral relations. Participants also underscored the need for the two nations to collaborate on addressing global challenges and contributing to international stability.

The dialogue builds on a framework established in May, when Chinese President Xi Jinping and then-U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to position the bilateral relationship around strategic stability and constructive engagement. This agreement is intended to guide China-US relations over the coming three years and beyond.

John L. Thornton, cochair of the Asia Society Board of Trustees, highlighted the unique personal rapport between Xi and Trump, calling it “highly unusual” among international leaders. Thornton stressed the importance of ensuring that the benefits of this relationship are reflected in tangible developments that both Chinese and American populations can recognize.

The dialogue serves as a platform to deepen understanding and foster practical cooperation, aiming to move beyond rhetoric toward concrete progress on key issues of mutual concern. Organizers expressed optimism about expanding collaborative efforts in various fields to strengthen the overall bilateral relationship.
