No Woman No Cry, a four-year-old gelding by Microphone out of Miranare, continues to seek improvement following a challenging run at Grafton on July 15. The horse, trained by T A Commerford, finished third in a maiden 1700-meter event on firm ground, trailing the winner by 0.8 lengths.
In the race, ridden by Ms O Dalton and carrying 57 kilograms, No Woman No Cry settled toward the back of the field early, positioned tenth at the start and moving up to seventh by the 1200-meter mark. Despite encountering interference in the initial stages and running wide around the track, the gelding showed determination in the final stretch, closing the gap in a time of 1:43.95 with a closing 600 meters in 34.82 seconds.
No Woman No Cry is yet to record a win from seven starts but has placed in three races, including a maiden victory over 1630 meters earlier in its campaign. The horse’s overall record includes one first-up start, where it did not place, and subsequent runs without victories but some competitive showings.
The horse has earned a total of $31,225 in stakes, primarily competing over distances near 1600 to 1700 meters on firm surfaces. Its last 15 starts reveal mixed form, with a recent profile showing an improving effort despite racing wide and being hampered at crucial moments.
Trainer Commerford remains optimistic about the gelding’s prospects, noting its purposeful effort at Grafton and suggesting the horse warrants close attention in upcoming races. With continued development and favorable race circumstances, No Woman No Cry aims to build on its current form and achieve a breakthrough result in future starts.
