A new initiative, the Discover Creative Careers programme, has been launched to support young people from working-class and underrepresented backgrounds seeking careers in the creative industries. The programme targets individuals aged 11 to 24 and aims to establish clear pathways into the sector through a range of resources and opportunities.
The initiative provides a digital platform designed to connect young people with employers offering work experience placements, as well as access to webinars and networking events. In addition to aiding young participants, the programme also offers guidance for teachers, parents, and careers advisers to better support and inform young people exploring creative career options.
Ian Murray, the Creative Industries Minister, emphasized the importance of broad talent engagement for the UK’s creative economy, noting that its global reputation depends on drawing from diverse and widespread talent pools. The programme focuses particularly on reaching underserved regions alongside those from underrepresented backgrounds to foster a more inclusive workforce.
The Discover Creative Careers programme is positioned as a resource to help address existing barriers faced by young people attempting to enter the creative sector, aiming to provide greater equity and opportunity within one of the UK’s most dynamic and influential industries.
