A dedicated Doctor Who fan has invested over £30,000 and two years to build a full-size replica of the 1983 Tardis console room in his garden in South Kyme, Lincolnshire. Brendan Sheppard worked alongside a team of craftsmen to meticulously recreate the Time Lord’s control room, complete with flashing lights and the iconic towering time rotor. The resulting set measures approximately 32 feet by 16 feet (or 10 meters by 5 meters) and is housed inside a custom-built studio adjacent to Sheppard’s home.

The attraction opened to the public earlier this year, offering visitors 20-minute interactive experiences costing £20 each. These immersive trips through time and space include puzzles and appearances by familiar characters and adversaries from the series. The experience draws inspiration particularly from the era of the fifth Doctor, portrayed by Peter Davison. Bookings have reportedly sold out for the opening month, with reservations now being accepted for the coming year.

Sheppard described the project as a joyful endeavor that brought his childhood dreams to life. Initially, he considered using the replica as his office space but ultimately decided that the recreation—a tribute he likened to something worthy of Gallifrey, the Doctor’s fictional homeworld—was too special to keep private. “Joy is the theme that has run through this whole project,” he said. “It’s like bringing my childhood to life.” He noted being moved emotionally during the process, emphasizing a desire to share the experience with fellow fans.

The replica was officially inaugurated by Sophie Aldred, who portrayed Ace, a companion of the seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy. Aldred’s participation held significance for Sheppard, as she was the last companion to work alongside the original series set. Wearing her character’s distinctive black bomber jacket, she praised the faithful reconstruction.

Visitors have expressed enthusiasm about stepping through the Tardis doors, many sharing that it fulfilled a lifelong wish. The attraction combines fan nostalgia with detailed craftsmanship, appealing to longtime followers of the series as well as newcomers interested in the Doctor Who universe.
