The Organising Committee of the 4th Gulf Games Doha 2026 honored 280 volunteers, both men and women, in a ceremony held at the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) headquarters. The event recognized the volunteers’ significant contributions to the successful hosting of the Games, which took place in Doha from May 11 to 22.

Volunteers played an essential role in supporting the event’s wide-ranging organizational and operational needs, helping to facilitate a seamless experience for athletes, officials, and spectators. The Games highlighted Qatar’s advanced sports infrastructure and its capability in managing large-scale international sporting events.

Ahmed al-Jaber, chairman of the Volunteers Committee, opened the ceremony by expressing gratitude for the volunteers’ dedication throughout the competition. He emphasized their involvement in numerous functions, including welcoming delegations, assisting athletes and audiences, and supporting staff at competition venues and sports facilities. Al-Jaber described the volunteers as key contributors and partners in the overall success of the Games, noting their commitment and positive attitude exemplified the core values of volunteerism, teamwork, and community service.

Representing the volunteers, Hassan al-Tamimi, who has special needs, thanked the organisers for creating opportunities for diverse segments of society to engage in the event. He said the volunteer experience helped participants develop administrative, organizational, and technical skills, while also enhancing their personal and professional growth. Al-Tamimi expressed enthusiasm for future involvement in upcoming sporting competitions held in Qatar.

Another volunteer, Iman Mohammed al-Fawzai, a teacher with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, described her participation as an enriching experience that expanded her knowledge and personal horizons. She praised the Games’ strong organization and coordination, which contributed to their success. Al-Fawzai also highlighted the opportunity the volunteer framework provided to interact with people from various nationalities and cultures, fostering values of inclusivity and social cohesion.

Volunteer recruitment for the Gulf Games was managed through the “Al Adaam” Volunteer Platform, an integrated digital system launched by the QOC to streamline volunteer registration, task assignments, and coordination. The platform supports the management of volunteer programs for a series of major sports events hosted by Qatar, including the 2026 Half Marathon, the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the 2029 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship, and the Doha 2030 Asian Games. This initiative reflects the committee’s commitment to promoting a culture of volunteerism and enhancing sustainability while maintaining high standards in event organization and participant experience.
