Doha Bank, one of Qatar’s leading financial institutions, and global investment firm KKR have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore a strategic partnership aimed at expanding investment opportunities within Qatar. The agreement was formalized at the Qatar Economic Forum UNGA Special Edition in New York, just before the United Nations General Assembly High-level Week.
The MoU establishes a framework for the two entities to collaborate across KKR’s range of investment capabilities, including private equity, infrastructure, credit, and real estate. It also envisions making KKR’s private market strategies accessible to eligible Qatari investors through Doha Bank’s client platform. Beyond client offerings, the two organizations plan to investigate a deeper institutional relationship designed to foster a comprehensive and long-term partnership.
Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Fahad bin Faisal Al Thani, Group Chief Executive Officer of Doha Bank, emphasized the agreement’s significance in advancing the bank’s strategic partnerships with global investment leaders. He noted the intent to leverage KKR’s expertise to provide customers with access to world-class investment solutions, aligning with Qatar’s broader economic development goals and the aspirations outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.
General David Petraeus, retired US Army general and Partner and Chairman of KKR Middle East, highlighted Qatar’s rapid economic diversification supported by strong fundamentals and strategic reforms. Petraeus described the new partnership as a continuation of KKR’s growing commitment to the Middle East, strengthening its local investing capabilities and expanding its presence in Qatar.
Mark Danzey, Partner and Head of KKR’s EMEA Capital Markets team, pointed to Qatar’s appeal for global investors, with the collaboration seen as mutually beneficial by combining KKR’s multi-asset expertise and Doha Bank’s client reach and financial infrastructure.
KKR has maintained a regional office in the Middle East since 2009 and has been involved in numerous significant investments within the region. The MoU further underscores Doha Bank’s objective to enhance its wealth management offerings and provide tailored financial solutions, supporting its goal of delivering customer-centric banking services aligned with Qatar’s evolving economic landscape.
