Doha hosted the second meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Working Group on Defence against Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), gathering military representatives from member states to enhance regional security measures. The session was led by Lieutenant-Colonel Abdullah Turki Al Ali Al Maadheed, commander of the Defence Against Weapons of Mass Destruction Unit of the Qatari Armed Forces, and included officials from the GCC General Secretariat for Military Affairs alongside defense specialists from across the Gulf.

Participants focused on various agenda items designed to bolster the defense capabilities of the GCC armed forces. Discussions centered on reviewing a unified strategic plan aimed at defending against WMD threats, as well as developing a collective early warning mechanism to address potential radioactive leakage incidents. The working group also examined recent regional developments related to WMD risks, emphasizing the necessity of improved coordination and cooperation among member states.

The meeting concluded with a series of recommendations intended to strengthen joint defense frameworks and enhance overall readiness to respond to diverse security challenges. These measures are expected to contribute to the advancement of an integrated defense system within the GCC, supporting the collective goal of maintaining regional stability against weapons of mass destruction.
