Former U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to halt arms shipments to Ukraine unless Kyiv ceases attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. According to sources, Trump expressed frustration over Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s continued targeting of Russian oil refineries and indicated a possible suspension of arrangements allowing U.S. allies to purchase American weapons for transfer to Ukraine. Reports also suggest that Washington may consider withholding critical intelligence support from Ukrainian forces.

The comments come amid escalating Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities. On Tuesday, Russian forces attacked six energy sites across Ukraine, employing glide bombs and drones, causing significant damage and casualties, including the deaths of a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman. These attacks followed Trump’s claim that he had facilitated an energy-related ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

President Zelensky dismissed the alleged ceasefire, stating he was unaware of any such deal and condemned Russia’s continued assaults on civilian infrastructure and communities. In response to Trump’s remarks, Zelensky accused the former U.S. leader of weakness, particularly criticizing the United States’ decision to purchase 1.8 million tonnes of diesel fuel from Russia without extracting concessions related to the ongoing conflict.

Zelensky emphasized that a cessation of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries would only occur if Russia halted its targeting of Ukraine’s energy systems and stopped attacks that have resulted in civilian casualties. The ongoing violence highlights the broader complexity of the conflict, with energy infrastructure becoming a focal point and a source of tension even among international partners supporting Ukraine.
