At the Zurich Diamond League meeting on Thursday night, Brazil’s Alison dos Santos and American Masai Russell both set new world records in the hurdles events, delivering standout performances on the track.

Dos Santos, competing in the men’s 400 metres hurdles, surpassed the existing world record by clocking 45.80 seconds. He pulled ahead decisively in the final 100 meters, improving on the previous best time of 45.94 seconds set by Norway’s Karsten Warholm. Dos Santos’s performance solidifies his status as a leading figure in the event and marks a significant milestone in men’s hurdles.

In the women’s 100 meters hurdles, Olympic champion Masai Russell recorded a world record time of 12.09 seconds. Her run eclipsed the former world best of 12.12 seconds established by Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan in 2022. Russell’s smooth and controlled sprint down the straightaway underscored her dominance and continued ascent in the discipline.

The meet also featured a fast race in the women’s 100 meters. Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred took the victory with a time of 10.70 seconds. Britain’s Amy Hunt, the European champion, finished fifth in this sprint event. The Zurich Diamond League once again showcased some of the fastest athletes in the world as they approached the closing stages of the season.
