Jockey James Doyle capped off a remarkable 24 hours of success for Wathnan Racing by securing victory in the Group Three Virgin Bet Prestige Fillies’ Stakes at Goodwood on Friday. Originally scheduled to ride Diego Ventura in the Group Three Prix Quincey at Deauville, France, Doyle was forced to alter his plans due to a last-minute travel disruption.

Doyle and fellow jockey Tom Marquand were grounded at Duxford Airfield after a technical issue was discovered on their aircraft. According to Marquand, a component related to the propeller’s de-icing system was damaged, making takeoff impossible. With no feasible alternative travel arrangements to reach Normandy in time, Doyle instead traveled to Goodwood, where he replaced Clifford Lee to pilot Light Of Dawn to victory for trainer Karl Burke.

While Doyle was sidelined from Deauville, Marquand remained at home and witnessed the Qatari-owned Al Aasy claim his first Group Two win in the Grand Prix de Deauville. Under the guidance of Pierre-Charles Boudot, the veteran horse edged out competitors by a short neck in a tightly contested finish. Marquand described the outcome as a “well deserved” success and expressed relief that he missed the ride under such circumstances.

The day also featured significant achievements for Wathnan Racing internationally. The stable recorded a surprise triumph through the unbeaten colt Leading Change, who captured the Grade One Travers Stakes at Saratoga, while in Germany, Al Jehani-trained Holguin secured a Group Three victory.
