New York City is set to open more than 50 outdoor pools across its five boroughs this weekend, marking the start of the summer season. The city’s Parks Department confirmed that 51 of the 53 outdoor pools will officially open Saturday at 11 a.m., with crews having worked for weeks to prepare the facilities.

Among the largest pools ready for use are Crotona and Van Cortlandt Pools in The Bronx, Astoria Pool in Queens, and the relatively new Gottesman Pool located at the Davis Center in Manhattan. The city’s outdoor pool offerings also include 13 Olympic-sized pools and 17 smaller pools designed specifically for young children.

While most pools will be accessible to the public, two notable exceptions remain closed for reconstruction. The Haffen Pool in The Bronx has been closed since April for a $13.4 million rehabilitation project aimed at modernizing the facility. Meanwhile, the Tony Dapolito Pool in Manhattan, known for its Keith Haring mural, remains shuttered due to structural concerns and plans for future reconstruction.

City officials emphasize the importance of maintaining these public amenities as a resource for residents seeking recreation and relief from the summer heat. The Parks Department’s maintenance teams have been actively engaged in cleaning, repairing, and upgrading pool infrastructure to ensure safe and enjoyable experiences for swimmers throughout the season.
