A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal car accident near Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire. The incident occurred last Tuesday on the B4696, where Barbara Mullaney, 70, was driving an orange Peugeot when it collided with a black Vauxhall Astra. Ms. Mullaney was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Vauxhall, aged 43, was taken to hospital and subsequently arrested. A teenage girl who was a passenger in the same vehicle sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Wiltshire Police disclosed that they have referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, citing previous interactions with the suspect. Community members have paid tribute to Ms. Mullaney by placing flowers outside Animal Fayre, a pet shop she operated in Cricklade, Wiltshire. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
