A Dubai Traffic Court has sentenced an Asian driver to imprisonment, fined him, and suspended his driving licence for three months after he was found guilty of driving under the influence of narcotics and causing property damage in Al Qusais.

The incident occurred when the driver reversed his vehicle carelessly and collided with a boat parked near its owner’s residence, resulting in damage to both the boat and the vehicle. Authorities were alerted to the traffic accident and responded to the scene, where officers observed the driver exhibiting abnormal behavior. A precautionary search led to the discovery of a transparent crystalline substance in the driver’s wallet, later confirmed to be crystal methamphetamine by the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology.

During police questioning, the defendant admitted to consuming crystal methamphetamine prior to driving and acknowledged that the substances found were for personal use. He also accepted responsibility for the accident caused by his inattentive reversing.

The court relied on the defendant’s confession, police reports, and forensic evidence to conclude that he had both possessed and consumed narcotics while operating a vehicle. The offenses were combined and treated as a single charge, resulting in the imposition of the highest penalty permitted by UAE law. The ruling includes imprisonment, a financial penalty, and a three-month revocation of the driver’s licence.
