The Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) is set to return on October 31, inviting residents and visitors to engage in 30 minutes of physical activity daily for 30 days, concluding on November 29. The annual event, now in its tenth edition, aims to promote long-term fitness habits while expanding the variety of activities and sporting events available in Dubai, according to senior manager Yaqoub Al Zarouni.
Speaking ahead of the EuroLeague basketball game between Dubai Basketball and Paris Basketball at the Coca-Cola Arena, Al Zarouni emphasized that the challenge seeks to influence more than just participation rates. “We are not just only looking for participation. We are also attracting a lot of international events and introducing new sports,” he said. His comments highlight the ambition to foster the growth of sports culture in Dubai, noting the city’s evolution from hosting few major basketball events to now supporting a competitive team and championship.
The event’s theme for this year, “What’s Your 30x30?”, encourages people of all ages and fitness levels to find enjoyable activities, ranging from walking and cycling to yoga and other sports. The programme features free fitness classes, community activities, and Fitness Villages, alongside marquee events such as Dubai Ride, Dubai Run, Dubai Stand Up Paddle, and Dubai Yoga. This approach aims to make exercise accessible and appealing to a broad audience.
Since its inception, the Dubai Fitness Challenge has drawn more than 16 million participants over nine editions. While surpassing last year’s participation figures remains a goal, Al Zarouni underscored that the initiative’s true measure of success lies in shifting attitudes toward physical activity and fostering sustainable habits. When asked about specific participation targets, he responded that the numbers are less significant than cultivating a lasting fitness culture. “If you are asking me what number I’m looking for after Dubai Fitness Challenge, on the last day, I would say... 10, 20, 30 million, 40 million, 50 million. Whatever the number is,” he said.
Dubai Sports Council Secretary General His Excellency Saeed Hareb also attended the press conference, reaffirming the council’s support for the challenge as part of wider efforts to promote healthy lifestyles across the city. The initiative reflects Dubai’s broader vision of positioning itself as a hub for fitness and international sports events.
