Dubai Police have apprehended six individuals accused of operating an online scam involving a fraudulent shopping website designed to steal bank card information. The suspects allegedly used the stolen data to make unauthorized purchases and transfer funds into digital wallets.
The investigation began after multiple victims reported unexplained deductions from their bank accounts. One complainant, identified only by her initials S.N., described waking up to notifications of large withdrawals that depleted her lifetime savings. Employed by a private company, S.N. said she had no activity on her phone at the time and was unaware of any transactions being made.
Authorities swiftly referred the cases to the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, which established a specialized unit to probe the incident. Following extensive surveillance and analytical work, the team identified the six suspects and located their residence. A coordinated raid was conducted, resulting in the arrests.
Officials indicated that the suspects, believed to be part of a group dubbed the “Unexpected Deduction” gang, not only used the compromised card details to carry out fraudulent transactions but also opened digital wallets and bank accounts to funnel the illicit proceeds. Additionally, some of the stolen card information was reportedly sold to other fraudsters.
During the operation, police seized bank cards stolen from victims, which the suspects had intended to resell. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging individuals to monitor their bank accounts closely and report any unauthorized activity.
