A school in Dubai will introduce a dedicated Motorsport Academy beginning in the 2026-27 academic year, providing students with practical training in racing, engineering, technology, and business. The programme, launched by GEMS School of Research and Innovation (SRI), will initially be available to students in Years 4 to 9, offering an enrichment curriculum that extends beyond traditional sports activities.
The academy aims to give students direct exposure to the rapidly expanding motorsport industry through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience. Participants will engage in weekly sessions at Dubai Autodrome, located in Motor City, where they will receive practical training alongside theoretical lessons at school. The curriculum will cover engineering principles, simulation racing, race strategy, enterprise, and performance, aligning academic learning with industry practices.
School officials describe the initiative as part of a broader educational trend emphasizing real-world career pathways and industry-linked learning experiences. This approach seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and professional skills, preparing students for future opportunities in a competitive sector.
The timing of the academy’s launch coincides with a surge in motorsport interest across the UAE. The country has seen increased popularity in Formula 1 events, international racing competitions, karting activities, and the growth of simulation racing among youth. These developments have positioned the UAE as a significant hub in the global motorsport landscape.
Joshua Levenson, Director of Futures at GEMS SRI, highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of motorsport as a key factor driving interest in the academy. He noted that the UAE’s world-class racing facilities, major events, and expanding opportunities for youth participation make it an ideal environment for such a programme. Levenson emphasized the sport’s capacity to integrate diverse fields, fostering skills that extend beyond the racetrack.
