Dubai is set to launch a new global research and technology centre designed to enhance economic zones worldwide, following approval by Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ). The initiative was announced on October 25, 2026, and aims to attract foreign investment, boost the competitiveness of economic zones, and foster international trade.

The Global Centre for Research and Technology for Economic Zones will operate under the auspices of DIEZ, utilizing Dubai’s expertise to develop international standards, conduct research, and offer data and technology solutions tailored for economic zones across the globe. The centre is expected to assist governments, investors, and economic zone operators in evaluating investment opportunities, refining policies, and measuring economic performance.

This development aligns with Dubai’s broader strategic objectives, notably the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which seeks to elevate the emirate into the top three global economic hubs. Additionally, the centre supports the UAE’s long-term national vision, "We the UAE 2031," which emphasizes sustainable economic growth and enhanced global integration.

By establishing this centre, Dubai aims to leverage its status as a leading business and trade hub to provide analytical tools and standards that can improve the efficiency and attractiveness of economic zones internationally. The initiative marks a significant effort to position Dubai as a central player in shaping the future of global economic development and trade facilitation.
