The 29-year-old swimmer, who is among Britain’s most decorated Olympians with two gold and six silver medals, secured his fourth Commonwealth gold medal in front of a home crowd at the Tollcross Centre in Glasgow.

Scott maintained a strong lead throughout the race and eased through the final 50 meters to clinch victory, providing Scotland with its first medal of the ten-day competition. Supporters waved the Saltire flag in celebration as the event’s highlight athlete produced a commanding performance on his home turf.

The silver medal was claimed by New Zealand’s Lewis Clareburt, who finished with a time of 1:56.77. England’s Tom Dean took the bronze, recording 1:57.22.

Reflecting on his win, Scott emphasized the importance of setting a positive tone for the team early in the Games. “You really want to get the team some good momentum early doors and being one of the senior members, the onus is kind of on me,” he said. “I’m glad and there’s more of a relief rather than anything else.”

In addition to Scott’s success, Scottish swimmer Katie Shanahan secured a silver medal in the women’s 200 meters backstroke, adding to the host nation’s medal tally.
