French authorities have launched an investigation into the disappearance of £12 billion linked to Vanja Megevand, who is described by Piers Dunhill as “my lawyer” and is reportedly his fiancée. The probe centers on allegations that Megevand, along with two other Swiss lawyers, may have orchestrated an organized fraud involving the substantial funds.

The missing sum, which is believed to have been fraudulently diverted from a single individual, Nicolas Puech, a descendant of the founder of luxury goods company Hermès, has drawn significant attention from French prosecutors. The inquiry is focused on preliminary charges against the trio of Swiss legal professionals.

Dunhill, 32, heir to the Dunhill tobacco family fortune and involved with Dunhill Ventures, has faced a series of unfortunate associations with entrepreneurs under scrutiny. In 2023, he was photographed with jeweler Vashi Dominguez just months before Dominguez’s company was wound up, resulting in reported investor losses totaling £170 million. Additionally, Dunhill had ties to Renato Brioni—formerly known as Renato Libric—the subject of a 2018 U.S. prison sentence for wire fraud and ordered to pay over $1.5 million in compensation.

Social media posts show Megevand’s connection to Dunhill extending beyond professional ties. She has publicly thanked Dunhill following financial networking events, and reports indicate their relationship evolved into a romantic engagement. While the couple had not officially announced their engagement, sources familiar with them state that those who met them understood they were engaged.

Dunhill has declined to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, Megevand’s legal representative has categorically denied the allegations leveled against her.

The investigation remains ongoing as French authorities continue to examine the complex web of financial transactions involved in the case.
