A serving officer with Durham Constabulary has been arrested on suspicion of rape, the police force confirmed. The officer was taken into custody and subsequently suspended earlier this month as part of an ongoing investigation.

Durham Constabulary’s Professional Standards Department is leading the criminal inquiry into the allegations. Following the arrest, the officer was released on bail while further enquiries are conducted.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been approached for comment regarding the investigation. No additional details about the identity of the officer or the circumstances surrounding the arrest have been disclosed at this time.
