Enceladus demonstrated strong potential for the upcoming Betfred St Leger at Doncaster after securing a decisive victory in the Maison Perrier Gordon Stakes on July 31. Ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle, the Sea The Stars colt was well-supported by bettors at odds of 6-4 in the Group Three event over 1 mile 4 furlongs.

Throughout the race, McMonagle strategically positioned Enceladus to take an early lead. As the field approached the two-furlong marker, the jockey urged the colt forward, allowing him to seize the advantage over fellow Irish contender Geryon. Despite showing some inclination to lean right-handed while descending the course, Enceladus maintained control to finish comfortably ahead.

Following the performance, bookmakers William Hill offered odds of 14-1 on Enceladus to extend his success by winning the St Leger on September 12. McMonagle expressed confidence in the horse’s stamina and versatility at longer distances, highlighting that Enceladus is still developing and "sharpening up with experience." The jockey also noted the colt’s potential for improvement, describing him as a "big baby" poised for a promising future.

Enceladus is trained by Joseph O’Brien, who has a notable history with the St Leger, having ridden Leading Light to victory in 2013 for his father Aidan, and later training Galileo Chrome to the same success in 2020.

In a separate event on the same day, Ciarrai Abu participated in the Coral Kincsem Heritage Handicap, demonstrating both unpredictability and resilience. The young horse, owned by the team behind Harry Eustace’s leading runner Docklands, appeared difficult to manage before the race. Jockey George Wood briefly lost control as the horse exited the pre-race parade, nearly unseating him, and encountered further agitation en route to the start.

Once allowed to compete, Ciarrai Abu delivered a mostly smooth performance despite some wandering in the closing stages. The 100-30 outsider held off a late challenge from Bourbon Blues, a 25-1 long shot, and Evanesco, who set a steady pace at 11-1 odds. Wood acknowledged the colt’s challenging temperament but praised his physical capabilities and commended trainer Eustace’s efforts in managing the horse's quirks.

Wood was subsequently handed a three-day suspension for careless riding, having permitted Ciarrai Abu to drift left without sufficient correction during the race.
