British technology company Dyson has entered the oral care market with the launch of the CameraJet, a high-tech toothbrush designed to enhance dental hygiene through advanced imaging and targeted plaque removal. The device, released this month, integrates a miniature AI-powered pixel macro camera that captures 28 live images per second to scan the mouth in real time during brushing.
The CameraJet’s camera technology identifies and tracks spaces between teeth, allowing it to direct a precise jet of mouthrinse into crevices to target plaque and debris. Dyson asserts that this approach offers a deeper clean without the need for traditional flossing, addressing a common challenge many people face with maintaining effective interdental hygiene.
The toothbrush features a dual-bristle head intended to both polish teeth and support gum health. It connects via Wi-Fi to a smartphone app, enabling users to view live footage from inside their mouth while brushing. A smart docking station recharges the device’s battery, and Dyson is also introducing proprietary toothpaste and mouthrinse products designed to complement the CameraJet.
Dyson’s founder and chief engineer, James Dyson, highlighted the motivation behind the device, noting that flossing is often seen as inconvenient and time-consuming, leading to low compliance despite its known benefits. He emphasized the company’s focus on addressing three main issues: visualizing interdental spaces, effectively removing plaque, and enhancing cleaning performance during brushing.
The CameraJet has been under development for six years, reflecting Dyson’s commitment to refining its advanced oral hygiene technology before its market debut. Priced at £419.99, the device represents a premium addition to the personal care segment.
