Sean Dyche has expressed confidence in Harrison Armstrong’s potential to develop into a top-tier player amid discussions surrounding the Nottingham Forest midfielder’s possible transfer from Everton. Armstrong, a promising young talent, has appeared in every Premier League match this season and has garnered praise from Everton’s current manager, David Moyes.

Recent reports detailed Nottingham Forest’s interest in acquiring Armstrong, a move that was ultimately halted after significant backlash from Everton supporters. The backlash led to the cessation of transfer negotiations, with the teenager remaining at Goodison Park for the time being.

Dyche, who previously managed both Everton and Nottingham Forest and gave Armstrong his senior debut, emphasized the player’s promising prospects. “He’s a good player; I gave him his debut,” Dyche said. “I think he’s got a really strong chance of becoming a real top player. It’s still early but I can see why clubs were sniffing around and why Forest made the cheeky approach.”

In addition to Armstrong's talent, Dyche suggested that financial considerations related to Everton’s recent penalties under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) may have contributed to the club’s openness to selling an academy graduate. Everton faced sanctions linked to PSR breaches, impacting how the club manages its player transactions. “Maybe, because of PSR and the history of Everton’s homegrown talent, they thought it was a bundle of money for PSR and all that,” Dyche explained.

However, Dyche also clarified that he did not believe Forest was assured of securing Armstrong in the transfer process. “I’m not saying they were never going to get him, with Forest being the club chasing him, but he’s got every chance,” Dyche said. “I’m pleased he stayed there. He’s got every chance of being a top player, certainly.”

Armstrong’s future remains a focus for both clubs as he continues to establish himself in the Premier League this season.
