Malaysia’s e-sports teams continued their strong performance at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games by securing two bronze medals in separate events on September 30. The medals contribute to a growing tally for the national contingent in the competition.
The Identity V squad, making their debut at the Asian Games, claimed a bronze after falling 0-2 to host nation Japan in the semi-finals. The team, led by captain Gan Hong Ming and including members Yiau Wen Feng, Nicky Ho, George Chin, Vincent Yii, Ng Wei Hao, and Eugee Cheah, faced a formidable Japanese squad. Hong Ming acknowledged the strength of their opponents but expressed pride in the team's overall achievement. He added that despite the result, the team viewed the experience as an opportunity to learn and improve moving forward.
In a separate event, the Malaysian Mobile Legends: Bang Bang team also secured a bronze medal following a 0-2 semi-final defeat to Myanmar. The squad, consisting of Qayyum Ariffin, Mohd Haqqullah, Danish Fitri Razman, Danial Mohd Fuad, Hazziq Danish Mohd Rizwan, and Razif Sazali, had advanced to the semis after a 2-0 quarter-final victory over Jordan.
These recent results bring Malaysia’s total e-sports medal count at the Asian Games to five. Alongside the two bronze medals, Malaysia has won a gold in the Gran Turismo 7 event and two silver medals in the e-football and Honor of Kings competitions.
The ongoing achievements underscore Malaysia’s growing stature in the regional e-sports scene as the teams gain valuable experience against strong competition. Officials and athletes alike have expressed optimism about building on the current momentum in future events.
