Malaysian squash player Ng Eain Yow began his campaign at the London Classic with a convincing victory on Tuesday, advancing to the second round of the tournament. The 28-year-old world No. 18 delivered a dominant performance against England’s Patrick Rooney, ranked 45th globally, winning 11-3, 11-2 in just 16 minutes. This marks the third occasion Eain Yow has defeated Rooney, having previously won their encounters in 2023 and 2025.

Eain Yow’s next opponent will be Aly Abou Eleinen of Egypt, who holds the world No. 11 ranking. The Malaysian will be aiming to build on last year’s success when he reached the semi-finals of the London Classic.

In the women’s draw, 21-year-old Aira Azman also progressed to the second round after a come-from-behind victory against Egypt’s Nour Heikal. Aira dropped the first game 5-11 but recovered to take the next two 11-4, 11-6 in a 26-minute match. She now faces the top seed, Hania El Hammany of Egypt, in what is expected to be a challenging fixture.

Meanwhile, fellow Malaysian Sivasangari, who received a bye in the opening round, will meet Egypt’s Nardine Garas in her second-round match. Garas advanced after defeating Aira’s sister, Aifa Azman, 11-9, 11-7 in the first round.

The London Classic continues to attract strong competition, with Malaysian players showing promising form as the tournament progresses.
