Eamonn Holmes, the British television presenter, has received support from both of his former wives following a stroke six months ago, marking an unexpected turn in his personal life after years of acrimony. The 66-year-old broadcaster, known for hosting ITV’s This Morning and more recently GB News Breakfast, has been cared for by Ruth Langsford, his estranged wife of 14 years, as well as his first wife, Gabrielle Holmes.
The reunion among the ex-spouses comes in the wake of a fractured and highly publicized divorce between Holmes and Langsford, which was precipitated by the discovery of text messages to another woman. Their split had involved bitter legal disputes over shared assets, including a £3.2 million Surrey family home, and a £10 million joint fortune that is scheduled for court review in November. Despite their difficult separation, Langsford has reportedly set aside past grievances to support Holmes during his health struggles.
Gabrielle Holmes, who was married to Eamonn for over a decade before their separation in the mid-1990s, has also joined in providing care. The two women, once strangers, were reportedly brought together by Holmes’s three eldest children—Declan, Rebecca, and Niall—who have maintained close ties with Langsford, with whom Holmes shares a son, Jack. The family’s collective effort to support the presenter reflects increased concerns over his well-being following his stroke and ongoing mobility challenges.
Holmes’s health issues have been well-documented in recent years. He underwent a double hip replacement in 2016 and has battled back problems stemming from a dislocated pelvis and slipped discs. Spinal surgery in 2022 did not fully alleviate his symptoms, contributing to multiple falls and ongoing discomfort. His physical condition had increasingly impacted his professional life, culminating in a series of on-air difficulties at GB News in early 2023 and his last appearance on the network in March. In April, following the stroke, he was hospitalized and has since been unable to return to broadcasting.
Amid the personal upheaval, Holmes’s relationship with his much younger girlfriend, Katie Alexander, has reportedly deteriorated. Alexander, 44, who had been living with Holmes in a penthouse apartment in Kingston, southwest London, recently moved out. Sources suggest family members harbored concerns about her influence on Holmes and viewed her departure with a mixture of relief and sadness. Alexander’s exit coincides with the family assuming a more active role in managing Holmes’s affairs, as relatives seek to safeguard his financial and personal interests.
A public relations firm, Plank PR, known to have previously represented the couple, is now acting on behalf of Holmes, Langsford, Gabrielle, and the children. The agency’s involvement signals a coordinated effort within the family to handle Holmes’s public image and private matters during this period of crisis.
Despite the difficulties that have marked Holmes’s recent years—including a costly court battle with HM Revenue & Customs and strained family dynamics—the support extended by his former wives highlights a rare instance of unity amid adversity. The situation underscores the complexities of personal relationships in the public eye and the unexpected ways families can come together in times of need.
