Eastleigh maintained their unbeaten record at home this season with a 1-0 victory against a depleted Carlisle United side on Saturday. The match, played at Eastleigh’s home ground, saw Aaron Blair score the lone goal, extending Eastleigh’s unbeaten run at home to five games.

Carlisle United arrived missing several key players due to injury and illness, including Regan Linney, Brad Nicholson, and captain Morgan Feeney. Manager Rob Elliot acknowledged the impact of these absences but expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s overall performance. “We weren’t brave enough to play and stick to what we do and we just didn’t manage the moments,” Elliot said after the match. “Let’s not get away from it, we were poor today.”

Despite the challenges, Carlisle opened the match strongly. Early chances for the visitors included a near strike from Micah Obiero within the first two minutes, when he cut inside defenders and curled a shot narrowly wide. Eastleigh’s Harry Sidwell also came close with a volley that went just wide midway through the first half. The game was briefly interrupted by an injury to Carlisle full-back Nick Akoto, who went down awkwardly contesting a header, resulting in an eight-minute stoppage.

After Akoto was substituted by Dion Rankine, Eastleigh seized control in the final moments of the first half. In the 44th minute, Josh Lundstram delivered a precise cross to Blair, who finished emphatically into the roof of the net, securing the lead for the hosts.

Carlisle introduced Stephen Wearne and Junior Luamba during the interval in an effort to change the game's momentum but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities. Goalkeeper Adam Desbois was crucial in preserving Eastleigh’s advantage, making a remarkable save just before the hour mark to deny a close-range header from Jerome Cousins.

Carlisle’s Miguel Azeez also had a narrow escape when an attempted clearance accidentally struck the crossbar, while Luamba missed a significant chance to equalize in the 71st minute, scuffing his shot from six yards out.

Eastleigh manager Matt Gray praised his team’s disciplined and aggressive display. “They are a top side with some really good players, but we really nullified them,” Gray said. “To get our first clean sheet at home and another win, I am absolutely delighted.”

The result consolidates Eastleigh’s strong home form while Carlisle continues to struggle to find consistency amid squad absences.
