Trainer Ed Walker is considering entering Alfred Wallace in a Group One race before the end of the season following the colt’s victory in the BetMGM Solario Stakes at Sandown Park. The two-year-old, ridden by jockey Kieran Shoemark, won the Group Three event by half a length, demonstrating resilience just ten days after finishing fourth at York.

Alfred Wallace was the 11-4 second favourite in the Solario Stakes and made his seventh outing this season. The race saw the withdrawal of several notable contenders, including the favourite Rock Montreal and Sergei Diaghilev, due to challenging track conditions. Walker acknowledged that the absence of these rivals likely played a role but emphasized the colt’s toughness and race experience as key factors in his success.

“What a dude, he’s an absolute star to back up ten days after York,” Walker said. “He’s small and strong and tough. A few high-profile non-runners probably helped us, but our fellow has that battle-hardened experience.” Alfred Wallace tracked the early leader Sonic Angel for much of the race before Shoemark urged him forward two furlongs from the finish to secure the win. Dover Street and Breacher finished second and third, respectively.

Following the performance, Alfred Wallace’s odds for the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket were shortened considerably, reflecting increased market confidence. Walker indicated the colt is entered in several upcoming races and expressed optimism about tackling higher-class contests. “We’ll definitely have a shot at a Group One with him,” Walker added. “He’s in everything, and I’ll have to try not to run him in all of them!”

The decision on which Group One race Alfred Wallace will target has yet to be confirmed. However, the win at Sandown reinforces the colt’s standing as a promising contender in the juvenile division this season.
