Edin Dzeko is reportedly poised to extend his stay at Schalke with a new one-year contract aimed at supporting the club’s Bundesliga campaign. The 40-year-old striker joined Schalke in January from Italy’s Fiorentina when the team was in the second division, contributing six goals to help secure promotion back to Germany’s top flight.

Dzeko’s future beyond this summer had remained uncertain, despite his recent participation with Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Cup. Although Schalke has not yet officially confirmed the contract extension, coach Miron Muslic hinted at the club’s strategy to bring in “players with character” ahead of the new season.

The veteran forward brings extensive experience to Schalke’s squad, having won the Bundesliga title with Wolfsburg in 2009 and finishing as the league’s top scorer the following year. His career also includes stints at prominent European clubs such as Manchester City, Roma, Inter Milan, and Fenerbahce.

In addition to Dzeko’s expected contract renewal, Schalke has bolstered their squad by signing former Germany fullback Robin Gosens. The team is scheduled to begin its season with a German Cup match against fourth-division side Hallescher FC on August 24, followed by their Bundesliga opener at Augsburg six days later.
