Parramatta Eels chief executive Jim Sarantinos has condemned the spread of false rumours circulating on social media concerning veteran player Dylan Walker. The club announced it would consider legal action in response to the unverified claims.

Walker, 31, was rested for the Eels’ upcoming match against South Sydney on Saturday. However, several social media accounts suggested his absence was related to an off-field incident, allegations the club has strongly denied. Sarantinos described the rumours as baseless and unfair to both Walker and his family.

In a statement released on the club’s website, Sarantinos emphasized the negative impact of such speculation and criticized those responsible for spreading false information. “We should never be in a situation where a player has to defend himself against baseless online speculation,” he said. He also called on fans and the media to cease circulating defamatory content and described the conduct as reckless and irresponsible.

Sarantinos reaffirmed the club’s full support for Walker, noting that the player’s teammates and the organisation stand behind him. The statement also indicated a commitment to pursuing appropriate legal measures against individuals disseminating defamatory material.

Walker’s contract with Parramatta is set to conclude at the end of the year, after which he will join the Leeds Rhinos in the Super League. The club’s action reflects ongoing concerns about the impact of misinformation on players and the wider sporting community.
