The Egyptian Football Association (FA) has clarified that recent alterations to the national team’s World Cup jerseys were not last-minute changes but had been planned and communicated well in advance. The adjustments come after FIFA informed Egypt that they could not display seven stars above their emblem, representing their seven Africa Cup of Nations titles, as World Cup regulations allow stars on jerseys only for world championship victories.

According to the Egyptian FA, the notification from FIFA regarding the prohibition of the stars was received several months prior to the tournament. The association said it took timely action, coordinating with the relevant authorities to comply with the ruling without any delays. “This is therefore not a new or unexpected development just before the start of the tournament,” the FA stated.

In addition to removing the stars, the Egyptian team must also alter the color of the numbers on their shirts. Originally intended to be gold, the numbers will now appear in white to enhance visibility. The FA described this adjustment as a standard organizational and technical requirement, not related to any controversy.

Egypt’s team, led by star forward Mohamed Salah, is set to open their World Cup campaign on Monday against Belgium. Their Group G opponents also include Iran and New Zealand. The association’s prompt response to FIFA’s directives ensures the team will comply with all tournament regulations ahead of their matches.
