EgyptAir has announced plans to launch a new flight route connecting Cairo with Singapore and Sydney, aiming to begin service in early 2027. The proposed route, revealed in a joint statement on September 10 with Changi Airport Group and Sydney Airport, would mark the first direct air link between North Africa and both Singapore and Australia.
The planned service comes amid increasing travel demand to and from Egypt, which was identified as the largest unserved market in Africa for point-to-point travel from Singapore and Australia in 2025. The collaboration between the airline and the airports highlights anticipated benefits beyond improved connectivity, including enhanced economic and cultural exchanges among the three countries.
The new route is pending regulatory approvals. EgyptAir intends to operate the flights using its Airbus A350-900, a modern, wide-body aircraft that the airline is deploying as part of its broader network expansion and fleet modernization efforts. Amr Adawy, EgyptAir’s vice president of commercial, emphasized that the service would strengthen the airline’s position in the Asia-Pacific region while facilitating seamless connections to destinations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
From Changi Airport’s perspective, the enhancement is expected to broaden access for travelers from Egypt and Australia to the wider Asia-Pacific region. Lim Ching Kiat, executive vice president of air hub and cargo development at Changi Airport Group, noted that the airport’s extensive regional network would support passengers’ onward journeys throughout Southeast Asia and beyond. He expressed anticipation for EgyptAir’s arrival at the Singapore hub and their role in ensuring the new service’s success.
Changi Airport has seen significant passenger growth in recent years, handling about 67.7 million passengers in 2024 and reaching an all-time high of approximately 70 million in 2025, surpassing its pre-pandemic record of 68.3 million in 2019. Sydney Airport has also been expanding international connectivity, supporting efforts to accommodate increasing travel demand across the Asia-Pacific region.
Further details of the new Egypt-Singapore-Sydney route, including schedules and ticket availability, are expected to be announced by EgyptAir in the coming months.
