The Ehsan Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly, affiliated with the Qatar Social Work Foundation, has launched an awareness campaign to coincide with the World Day of Awareness of Elder Abuse. The initiative aims to enhance public understanding of the rights of older individuals and reinforce measures to protect them from abuse and neglect.
The campaign targets the broader community with the goal of promoting respect and appreciation for older persons as essential members of families and society. It addresses challenges faced by the elderly, including neglect, isolation, and marginalization, all of which can undermine their dignity and right to safe, independent living.
As part of the initiative, the Ehsan Center is distributing a variety of awareness and media materials across social media channels and other platforms. These resources are intended to increase public knowledge, encourage positive social behaviors, and foster a safe and supportive environment for the elderly.
Manal Ahmed al-Mannai, Executive Director of the Ehsan Center, emphasized that safeguarding older persons is a collective social and moral responsibility involving individuals and institutions. She highlighted that elder abuse is not solely an individual concern but a societal issue that impacts human values and social cohesion. The initiative aims to promote respect, dignity, and safety for the elderly, ensuring they live with independence and security.
Al-Mannai also noted that the campaign aligns with the center’s broader mission to cultivate a more inclusive society where older persons actively participate in community life, recognizing their valuable contributions across generations. The center urged both the public and institutional sectors to join efforts in raising awareness, addressing all forms of elder abuse, and fostering a culture of care and protection.
Through this initiative, the Ehsan Center seeks to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of older persons in Qatar, reinforcing the importance of respect and empowerment for this demographic.
