The Centre for Empowerment and Elderly Care (Ehsan) has announced the launch of a Holy Qur’an competition specifically designed for elderly participants. The initiative aims to address the religious, cultural, and social needs of older adults while enhancing their quality of life and encouraging active involvement in the community.
Unveiled in a statement issued recently, the competition seeks to motivate elderly individuals to recite, memorise, and reflect on the Holy Qur’an. Organizers emphasize that the event will foster a positive and spiritual atmosphere, strengthening participants’ connection with the Qur’an and acknowledging their dedication to mastering its recitation, particularly emphasizing Tajweed—the rules governing the proper pronunciation during Qur’anic recitation.
The Ehsan Centre highlighted that the contest aligns with its broader commitment to offering specialised programmes tailored to the interests and needs of senior citizens. The competition is designed not only to encourage community and religious participation but also to spotlight outstanding performers, thereby reinforcing participants’ social inclusion, personal capabilities, and self-esteem.
The competition will be conducted under established terms and regulations, with a focus on maintaining transparency, fairness, and equal opportunities for all contestants. A panel of qualified judges will evaluate participants according to scientifically grounded criteria, including memorisation accuracy, correctness of recitation, adherence to Tajweed rules, and overall quality of delivery.
Registration details have been announced, with the centre urging eligible elderly individuals to apply promptly and to review the competition guidelines carefully before participation. This initiative forms part of a wider suite of programmes developed by Ehsan to support the spiritual and psychological well-being of the elderly population, creating interactive platforms that enrich their lives and encourage community engagement.
Through this competition, the centre aims to invest in the experience and potential of senior citizens while recognizing their contributions to society, fostering a sense of appreciation and respect for their roles within the community.
