Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yashar Party, has called on Israel Police Commissioner Insp.-Gen. Danny Levi to initiate an immediate investigation into the assault of a 76-year-old party activist who remains hospitalized after neurological surgery.

The victim, Ilan Mans, who leads the Yashar Party’s Mevaseret Zion branch, was attacked last week near the Hemed interchange on Highway 1. The incident occurred after Mans attempted to remove a banner that called for the release of Yigal Amir, the assassin of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995. Video footage of the attack shows several individuals surrounding Mans and assaulting him after he fell to the ground.

Following the attack, Mans was transported to Hadassah-University Medical Center in Ein Kerem, where he was diagnosed with bleeding in the brain. According to Eisenkot’s letter to Commissioner Levi on Monday, Mans underwent neurological surgery and remains hospitalized.

Eisenkot emphasized the severity of the assault, stating that such violence, occurring just 84 days ahead of the national elections, signals a troubling trend that must be addressed firmly. He urged the police to conduct a "comprehensive, thorough, and rapid" probe into the incident, to apprehend those responsible, and to ensure justice is served.

The Yashar Party leader further stressed the importance of a clear message from authorities during the election campaign that political violence will not be tolerated. The attack comes amid ongoing protests advocating for Amir’s release, with a similar banner appearing near the Ein Hemed interchange as recently as late June.
