Brentford have secured the signing of Senegalese defender El Hadji Malick Diouf from West Ham United in a deal reportedly worth £40 million. The 21-year-old, who featured four times for Senegal at the recent World Cup, is expected to make his debut for Brentford in their Premier League match against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews expressed confidence in Diouf’s fit within the team’s style and culture. Andrews noted that Diouf adapted well to the Premier League during his time at West Ham, where he impressed with several notable performances. The manager emphasized that thorough evaluations of Diouf’s character and ability to integrate into the squad were conducted prior to the transfer.

“He fits what we’re about with his age profile and attributes and he comes into an already competitive squad,” Andrews said, highlighting the defender’s compatibility with Brentford’s athletic playing style.

Diouf, reflecting on his move, stated that the club’s vision and support system resonated with him. “They’ve seen things in me that maybe I didn’t see myself. They’re looking forward to helping me and I’m really happy with the plan,” he commented. He also mentioned observing Brentford’s gameplay from the previous season, noting the team’s athletic approach as a key factor in his decision. “The team is very athletic and I have that profile as well, so I think I can adapt well,” Diouf added.

The addition of Diouf follows Brentford’s ambition to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new Premier League campaign. With his World Cup experience and youth, Diouf is expected to bring dynamism and depth to the squad as they aim to build on their recent performances.
