Manchester City have confirmed the signing of England midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a deal reported to be worth £116 million ($154 million). The 23-year-old midfielder has agreed to a five-year contract with the option to extend for an additional year. The transfer, initially agreed earlier this month, was finalized following Anderson’s return from the World Cup.

Anderson, who came through Newcastle United’s youth system, made 55 appearances for his boyhood club before moving to Nottingham Forest two years ago for £35 million. During his time at Forest, he played 92 matches and established himself as a key figure under Thomas Tuchel, contributing to the team’s third-place finish at the recent World Cup. Last season also saw Anderson receive his first call-up to the England national team.

He described Manchester City as a club “built to win trophies and compete at the very top of the game,” qualities that attracted him to the Premier League champions. Looking ahead, Anderson expressed particular enthusiasm about participating in the Manchester derby against City’s fierce rivals, Manchester United, scheduled for September 13 at Old Trafford. “For as long as I’ve known Manchester, City have been the kings of Manchester,” he said.

City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, praised Anderson as “one of the outstanding young midfield talents in world football,” expressing confidence in his potential to develop into a complete midfielder under the guidance of new manager Enzo Maresca. Anderson is expected to join the squad for pre-season training next month.
