Ellis Trowbridge, son of former three-weight world boxing champion Duke McKenzie, is aiming to establish his own career at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. McKenzie, 63, achieved world titles in the flyweight, bantamweight, and super-bantamweight divisions during the 1980s and 1990s. Now, 24-year-old Trowbridge is looking to use the 2026 Games as a platform to progress toward competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Trowbridge advanced with a swift victory in the men’s 55kg category, stopping Ricksen Nomleas of Vanuatu in under two minutes. He is scheduled to face Rukmal Prasanna from Sri Lanka in the round of 16. Following his win, Trowbridge emphasized his determination to forge his own path, acknowledging his pride in his father’s accomplishments while underscoring his focus on his personal journey.

Elsewhere in the boxing competition, England’s Lucy Kings-Wheatley progressed to the quarter-finals of the women’s 60kg division after defeating Petronella Nokenoke of Papua New Guinea. Lauren Mackie also secured a win in the women’s 54kg event, overcoming Amina Faki of Kenya to advance further in the tournament.
